Welcome to Seed and Harvest

Organic fruits and vegetables tend to be fresher and cheaper than their conventional counterparts, plus they tend to have fewer additives added.

Organic farmers utilize sustainable farming practices that conserve water, enhance soil health and safeguard the environment. They utilize renewable energy sources, forgo fossil fuel-based fertilizers and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Farmer Jones Farm

One of the best ways to support local agriculture is by purchasing organic produce. Not only does this protect soil, improve health and foster a more diverse economy, but you can also donate your food or money directly to a nearby farm or farmers market.

For three decades, the Jones family has been at the forefront of regenerative agriculture on their 350-acre farm near Lake Erie in northern Ohio. Their impressive portfolio of businesses includes The Chef’s Garden – providing some of the world’s top chefs with fresh, nutrient-dense vegetables; The Culinary Vegetable Institute – a plant-forward think tank and recipe development center; and Farmer Jones Farm – a family-owned heirloom vegetable farm that delivers curated produce nationwide.

This second-generation family farm uses regenerative and sustainable practices such as rotating field plantings to create more fertile soil for their microgreens and produce. In addition to offering one-time produce boxes, they also provide robust subscription options for those seeking to lock in supper prices.

From my visit to this farm, I discovered some fascinating vegetable products for the summer months. For instance, they carry heirloom tomatoes in an array of colors – from lipstick red and garnet purple to pinkish-yellow and peach!

They offer an impressive selection of lettuces that are both vibrant and healthy. You can dress their lettuce up or down according to your tastes and preferences, making it the perfect addition to salads, wraps, or as garnish on sandwiches too! Plus they have an extensive range of herbs and spices too – all grown right next door at this family farm!

Misfits Market

Misfits Market is an online organic veggie market that delivers produce and other groceries directly to your door for up to 40% less than local supermarket prices. With hundreds of items such as fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy available in many “food desert” areas around the country, Misfits Market may be a useful option for those aiming to reduce food waste or try sustainable brands not found at their local supermarket.

The company purchases food that would otherwise go unused by retailers due to oversupply or approaching best-by dates. It sources from partner farms and food hubs across the US, with most products being organic and GMO-free.

Misfits Market not only sells their own goods, but they also carry a selection of organic and vegan national brands like Impossible meats and Simply Organic spices. Plus, the shop stocks an expansive variety of other grocery items like pantry essentials and coffee.

Misfits Market typically offers high quality produce, though some of it lacks information about its origins. As a result, it may be difficult to tell where an item comes from or if it’s in season or not.

Misfits Market originally sold mystery boxes of veggies at a predetermined price. Now the company operates on a subscription model, requiring customers to spend at least $30 in order to receive one box.

Before you can begin shopping with Misfits Market, you must fill out a brief questionnaire about your family’s eating habits and lifestyle. This data allows the company to customize your produce selections according to individual needs and tastes.

Once you submit your profile to Misfits, they’ll send you a weekly selection of produce and specialty groceries that help save money while decreasing food waste. Furthermore, the website provides helpful tips and recipes for cooking what you purchase.

Misfits Market can be a great way to reduce food waste and purchase delicious items at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the service has some drawbacks such as its minimum order requirement and lengthy transit times. Furthermore, it’s difficult to confirm if the ingredients you’re purchasing are organic and GMO-free.

Farm Fresh to You

Farm Fresh to You is a local produce delivery service that brings organic veggies directly from the farm to your door. Not only do they deliver an array of fruits and veggies, but Farm Fresh To You has achieved remarkable social impact too; its donation of over 100,000 pounds of organic produce to food banks makes them one of our favorites!

The company provides subscription boxes that include produce, protein and groceries that are grown locally using GMO-free, sustainable methods. There are even specialty boxes tailored towards various diets and preferences like Paleo, gluten-free, omnivore or vegetarian.

Best of all, it’s all available for delivery right to your door or pickup at the local greenmarket. Additionally, they provide a small-scale CSA program which gives members access to locally-grown produce during a 24-week cycle.

How it Works: Sign up for a subscription box or order one a la carte and have one delivered to your doorstep every other week. You have the freedom to customize your order by choosing the size of the fruit or vegetable box, whether you want organic, non-organic or both, plus whether or not you want organic produce in total.
